Personality of The Holy Spirit

John 14:16-17 ‘ And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.’

Greetings to all readers in the most precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Here in this verse, we can see three persons : God the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Most of us know God the Father and the Son Jesus Christ as Divine Persons but fail to understand the personality of Holy Spirit. For most of us, Holy Spirit is just a power that illuminates strength but more than that, He is a person. If we understand His personality, then we will know his power and His work. He is not just a power. We must give equal respect and honor to Him as we give to our heavenly Father and Son Jesus, We must praise and thank Him as we thank and praise the Father and Son Jesus. I want to cover myself under His grace and Power to glean the personality of my author – The Holy Spirit.

Jesus, at the end of his ministry in the world, called the disciples and said, “let not your heart be troubled and I pray the Father and He will give you another Helper that He may abide with you forever.” So the Holy Spirit is given that He may abide with you forever. In other words, Jesus was telling that it is profitable for Him to go so that another Divine Person will come to abide with us forever. The Spirit of Truth abiding in us is more profitable than Jesus being with us in flesh. The second reason , John 14:26,” But the Helper, the Holy Spirit , whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” Holy Spirit is given to teach us and bring unto remembrance of all the commandments of Jesus Christ. When we study about Holy Spirit, we must understand His Power Personality. If you’re ignorant of these two things, then you have messed up the concept. Don’t just know the power of Holy Spirit but know His personality, which is more important. We believers know His power and sometimes think that He is just a power! Let us see what the bible says.

Apostle Paul, while addressing the church of Corinth in his epistle, asked them “Do you not know that you are the Temple of God, and that the Spirit of God is dwelling in you?” The problem with this church was that they knew the Spirit when they were gathered but failed to understand the Spirit when they were alone. Most of us think that Holy Spirit descends only when they are gathered and sings hymns. They don’t know that He is there even when they are at home, office, etc…Spirit of God dwells in us. Mark what Jesus said in John 14:17” …He will dwell in you.” So Holy Spirit doesn’t come at the end of hymns, but He is there within us always.

There are four characteristics or marks that signifies the personality of Holy Spirit. Knowledge, feeling, emotion and will. Anyone who thinks, feels and wills is a person. Let us see them in points :

Knowledge of Holy Spirit:
1 Corinthians 2:10, 11 ‘but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.’ See, it is clearly mentioned in this text that except the Holy Spirit, no one can reveal the thoughts of God. So He holds a supreme knowledge about God which shows his personality. No pastor and no priest or no painter can portray God. Holy Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God and He is the one who reveals them to us. Whom does He reveal? 1 Corinthians 12:11 ‘all these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.’ We must understand one thing today, that the Holy Spirit is not a power that we get hold of and use according to our will. He is looking for someone who is willing to receive Him and to be used according to His own perfect will. So God reveals through His Spirit only to those who will abide under the will of His Spirit. He wants to take possession in us; He wants to sit in us.

Mind of Holy Spirit:
Romans 8:27 ‘And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.’ This text tells about the mind of the Holy Spirit which tells us about his personality. How shall we know the will of God? The Spirit intercedes for us and reveals the will of God. What is the mind of Holy Spirit? Romans 15:30, ‘ I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.’ We often pray and thank God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, but do we thank Holy Spirit for His love and for leading us to the Savior and knowing His love? We must give same importance to Holy Spirit which we give to Father and Son. If anyone denies the Spirit, he denies the Father and Christ.

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit: Ephesians 4:30, ‘And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.’ Here it says not to grieve the Holy Spirit. This is shows his personality, Do you know that every act against His will is grieving Him? Holy Spirit is not blind, He is a Holy person, He sees every act we perform, every word we speak and every thought we entertain. He is being grieved when we show our back to him, but He delivers those who give their ears to Him. Revelation 2:7, ‘ He, who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’ God wants us to hear what the Spirit says. Do we hear what the Spirit says? Do we grieve the Holy Spirit?

A Crying Holy Spirit: Galatians 4:6, ‘ And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, ‘Abba, Father.’ He is represented as crying out in the heart of the individual believer. He joins us with the Heavenly Father, and gives us the assurance of son ship.

A Praying Holy Spirit: Romans 8:26, ‘ Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered.’ We have experience of talking to our friends and relatives, but we don’t know how to talk to God…so the Spirit helps in our infirmity. What is our infirmity? It is our ignorance about what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit who knows the will of God intercedes for us. This shows his personality…We are so privileged that we have two Divine persons praying for us ( Hebrews 7:25). Jesus Christ , the Son of God, who was on earth, who knows our weakness, who knows our temptations and who is now sitting on the right hand of God and interceding for us. On the other hand, we have the Holy Spirit who helps us in our infirmities and makes intercession for us with groaning…
The position of a believer is indeed one of perfect security with these two Divine persons interceding for him.

Holy Spirit testifies Jesus Christ: No one can draw Jesus Christ as sweet and deep as Holy Spirit does. John 15:26, “ but when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.” And when He testifies about Jesus to us, then it is our duty to testify the testimony of Jesus to others. Holy Spirit knows Jesus Christ more than anyone. He is not just a power, but He is a person.

Holy Spirit is a Teacher: John 14:26, “ But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” He not only teaches us but also reminds us every Word of Jesus. He is a person who instructs us day by day, the truth of God. 1 John 2:27,” As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.”

Holy Spirit is the Leader and Guide: During my visit to Germany, I needed someone to guide me because I was unaware of that place…Likewise we are unaware of Heavenly places. So we need a guide who will lead us. We have a perfect guide who will not just show the way but also leads us gently where God wants us to walk. Romans 8:14 says, ‘ because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.’ We see that Jesus was led by the Spirit to the wilderness but He returned with great power and strength. It doesn’t matter where you are sent. What matters is who is leading you!

Holy Spirit holds Supreme authority over individuals and the Church: Acts 16:6-7 Paul and his companions travelled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. 7When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.’ Here we see the authority of Holy Spirit which signifies His personality. And again in Acts 13:2, ‘ while they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”’ It was not the apostles who have set apart the people for the ministry, but it was the Holy Spirit who has a supreme control over Church and the Ministry.

Let us not only know the power of Holy Spirit, but also be aware of His Personality . Remember! Holy Spirit is not the One who comes when we are gathered but He is there within us.

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

May God bless you

1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

Apostle Paul is asking this question to the Church which is enriched in everything from God. They were full of gifts but living a life of ignorance. I want to ask you like Paul asked, “Are you ignorant? “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? And if anyone defiles the temple of God,
God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy. Whose temple are you? Do not miss this message and let it be an eye opener. Reset yourselves today! And come to the Lord.

Corinth is located in southern Greece about 50 miles from Athens and the Corinthian Church was in the midst of many temples of Aphrodite, Posedian, Apollo, Hermes,Venus-Fortuna, Isis etc. One temple was dedicated to all the gods, called Pantheon. This place was a centre of cults of the gods of Egypt, Roman and Greece. Almost thousand priestesses who were sacred prostitutes were there in these temples and in the evening, they plied their trade upon the streets of Corinth, until it became a Greek proverb, ‘It is not every man who can afford a journey to Corinth.’ She had a reputation for commercial prosperity, but she was also a byword for evil living.
I would like to give more facts about the land of Corinth but I want to share something more important than this. We know that in the midst of this filthy and sinful land of Corinth, God gave a breakthrough to the people who were once in the bondage of sin, through his servant, Paul. You must understand one fact that Paul had more trouble with the church at Corinth than any other churches. Transformation of lives in a place like Corinth is impossible when seen with the naked eye, but the Gospel of God has transformed a worthless sinner and washed him in His Blood. He brought him out as a saint and made him the pillar of the Church. Paul was addressing the people of Corinth. He wrote that they are not like other temples around, but that they are the Temple of the Living God and the Spirit of God dwells in them. Here is the good news I want to share with my readers. Do not lose heart. God will transform your husband. Wait for a few more days and you will see a transformation in your family and in your job. The power in the Gospel of God transforms any sinner and the Power in His Blood cleanses any sin and the power in the Word of God changes any heart. Praise be to God! If this corinthian Church can be enriched in every gift of God in the midst of the evil land, then do not blame your circumstances. Do not blame your family if you can’t grow in the Lord. Set your mind today and do not be ignorant- BECAUSE YOU ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD AND THAT THE SPIRIT OF GOD DWELLS IN YOU.

As the church was growing day by day in the Lord, the devil was troubled and he started to sow the weeds of division, envy and sexual immorality in the church. How do you know that the church was growing? 1 Corinthians 1:5 and 7 says that they were enriched in everything and was short in no gift.
Knowing this condition of the Church, Apostle Paul writes an Epistle to the church mentioning about the Christian conduct. Yes! The Epistle of 1 Corinthians is about the Christian conduct. In the Old Testament, we could see God putting a desire of building a Temple of God in the hearts of some people like David, Solomon, Ezra, Nehemiah, Zerubabel and Noah. We learn that in (1 Kings 6) Solomon brought woods, gold, brass and built a beautiful temple of God. On the day of dedication, while he was praying with huge crowds, behind him, the glory of God filled the temple and the priest could not enter the house of the Lord. The children of Israel saw how the fire came down and they also saw the Glory of the Lord on the temple. They bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshipped and praised the Lord. Saying “For he is good, and His mercy endures forever” (2 Chronicles 7:1-6). The unique feature that sets apart the Temple of God from all other worldly temples is that there was no idol in it. It contained only the Mercy seat over the ark and Cherubim overshadowing the Mercy Seat. In other words, the mercy seat in the temple of God showed His presence. This is Old Testament but let’s ponder upon New Testament….We see one man who laid hands on the diseased and they were healed. He called the dead from the grave, gave sight to the blind, healed the deaf and He declared one thing in the midst of that generation “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” The world said that he was talking about the Temple of Jerusalem. The rulers and Pharisees said he was talking about the temple built by their forefathers but No! He was talking about the temple which left the heavenly Glory and came to this sinful world, incarnate in the flesh- He is Jesus Christ himself, the only God and the only Savior. He declared to the world that if anyone wanted to destroy him (the temple) , he could destroy and the rulers of Roman Empire destroyed the temple( Jesus Christ ). But they did not know the power in the Temple (Jesus Christ), the power that broke the Roman Seal, the grave, the power that took the sting of death and the power that bruised the head of the serpent (Satan). Till that day, the world thought that the temple means the four cornered building made by wood and bricks, furnished by gold and silver. But let me tell you today. The temple is neither the cross nor the four storey building. It’s not the place furnished by gold and silver but it the place where the presence of God dwells and the place where his mercy throne is set. Do you not know that you are the temple of God? And that the spirit of God dwells in you? 2 Timothy 1:7, ‘For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.’

Dear Child, don’t be ignorant about the power of God that is given to us by His grace.Do you not know that the power inside you can break the bondage of tradition? Do you not know that the power inside you can break the yoke of Satan?
Do you not know that the power inside you can heal your disease? Do not walk like mere men. The Devil is a liar and he will never allow you to know the power that is given inside you. The devil has recognized the anointing inside you. Today is the day for you to recognize that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you. In Genesis 1:2, it is written that the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. The word ‘hovering’ has a deep meaning. It means “to remain”. Even though the earth was void and empty and there was darkness upon the face of the deep, the Spirit of God was hovering over!! Oh my God, you may be surrounded by the darkness of this generation, you may be living in the midst of cults of this world but if you choose to cling unto God, the spirit of God is above and over every circumstance and darkness of this world which is pulling you back. Jesus took three of his disciples and transfigured before them, his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as light, a bright cloud overshadowed them and they
heard the voice out of the cloud, Peter when experienced the presence of God he said it is good for us to be here…See the one who has tasted the presence of God will find the earthly things as rubbish… Oh! Think of that day when we will be with Jesus and we will eat from the Tree of Life…we are so blessed and highly favored!

If you are person who has not yet received the Holy Spirit, let this message enable you to have a thirst to receive. If you pray today with an open heart and with thirst today to receive the Holy Spirit, God will give ears to your prayer. It doesn’t matter where you are. You may be in the office, or in your living room. Have a thirst to receive the Holy Spirit and He will change your vision. He will change you completely. He will change your husband. He will change your wife and your family. And to those who have received the Holy Spirit. Do you know why sin entered into the Church of Corinth? Because they were ignorant about whom they were! Do not be ignorant and be aware of that you are the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in you!!

You are blessed!

John 21:22 Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”

Greetings to all in the most precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

This Particular text was really hard for me to understand and I read about many times to know what Jesus was telling to Peter here. I always had a desire in my heart that one day my Lord will reveal this to me- and on the sweet evening of 03 Aug 2010 while I was meditating through this passage God opened my eyes and made me to understand his word. Let this message open your eyes and enable you to grow in Christ.

Let me simplify the text so that you can understand, it says “If I desire that he should remain till I come, what is that to you?” this was said by Jesus to Peter. When Peter turned around and motioned John and asked about him. Jesus said that his will is that John should remain till he come. Jesus was not saying that he will not die in fact his will towards John was that he must hold on the Love and Faith till he comes. If God desire about John that he must hold on till the end then how much more we should. God’s desire with us is to remain where he has put us until he come. He does not want us to wander here and there but want us to remain in him until he comes to receive us. John ends the Gospel by portraying the desire of Jesus Christ to everyone who is following him. John has influenced me with is loving approach towards Christ, I just made a footnote about the disciple who followed Jesus. Out of the twelve one was a Devil (Judas Iscariot), Philip who did not know Jesus (John 14:9), Thomas who do not know the way and do not know where Jesus is going (John 5:5), many of his disciples went back and walked with him no more (John 6:66), Peter who denied Jesus inspite of all this one choose to lean his head on bosom of Jesus and stand near the cross. His name is John. God spoke to me other day why he himself appeared to John in the island of Patmos and why he did not send his angel? The day when all denied Jesus and betrayed him, it was John who stood by till the cross, he remained in the Love of Christ till the end, so God said to himself I will appear to this man who was with me till the end and will deliver him out of Patmos. If you choose to remain with the Lord in your thick and thin, he will be your keeper, he will be your tower and your shade. John stood when all scattered, John leaned when Judas left. No matter what the world say but you choose to cling onto Jesus. Some of you are interested to see how pastor’s life is, how that denomination is. God has not given you the license to judge others. You follow Jesus and remain where God has put you. God will judge!

God’s will to the Adam and Eve was that they should remain where he has put them but due to sin they were throw out and was forbidden to eat from the tree of Life but when I read in Revelation 2:7 to him who overcomes I will give him to eat from the tree of life which is in the midst of paradise of God. If we remain in Christ we will enjoy the privilege of eating from the tree of Life where Adam and Eve were forbidden. The church of Ephesus has left the first love so God reminds them to return from where they have fallen and remain where they were planted. God wants us to remain in the First Love. What is first love and why it is important for us to come back to the first love? First Love is something special with more sincerity, faithful, caring, obeying, more attached but as the year goes this love becomes cold and now there is no sincerity like before, now their friction between the two parties. So what we should do now to come back to the First love? Love Jesus daily. We all love Jesus but my question do we Love him like first when we accepted him? God did not tell Ephesus that they do not love but he said they had left the First Love….Yes we have Christians who love Jesus but has left the first love. Do your relationship daily with Jesus is getting weaker or stronger? Jeremiah 2:2 says about the Love of your betrothal. Like a Husband loves his wife in the days of engagement but for most of us this love slowly and steadily turns like hot water slowly turns into cold water.
God is not promoting Luke warms but he wants someone who still holding him even in hardships.God wants us to remain in his love, he wants us to remain in his faith, he wants us to remain in his word. Are you there or drifted away from where God has put you? If yes! Today is the day for you to return. Did John remain till the end? Yes remained in the love of Christ until he was put in the boiling oil, he remained until he was banished to Patmos, he remained until he was tortured and persecuted, he was faithful and was in the blanket of Lord’s Love until the point of Death. And God says he who overcomes I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life, I will confess his name before my father and before his angels, I will make him a pillar in the temple of God, and he shall go out no more. And I will write on him the name of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God. And I will write on him My new name. What a privilege to us if we choose to remain in the Lord. The present time sufferings are only for some moment but remain in the love of God, keep the faith till the end. Paul says I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. He has fought, Finished and kept…this shows he remained where God has put him. God’s will with every follower is that he must Fight and not give up, he must finish the race with endurance and keep the faith till the end. My prayer to God if I die before his coming I must get a good end. Like Paul, confident to say that I have Fought, I have finished and I have kept. Let us continue in faith, firm and established and not move from the Hope.

Colossians 2:6 says So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. If we continue to live in him like the branch is attached to the vine and rooted and built up in him- we can remain in the Lord.

Genesis 26:3, 6 and 12 Here we can see Isaac in the days of great famine was trying to go to Egypt like his father Abraham. Some of the folks like to follow traditions and footsteps of forefathers that’s why they do not give ears to Gospel. But God appeared Isaac and told him to remain in the land which he tells. So Isaac remained where God told him and in the same year of Great famine Isaac sowed and reaped hundred folds and God blessed him. I would like to share many more characters here but I have limitation. One of them is Ruth who clings with her mother in law and chose to serve the Living God and we know how God blessed her.

John 15:5 says If a man remains in me and I in him he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. Cling unto Jesus so that we bear much spiritual fruits.
Let us remain where God has planted us. The time is near and we will see the son of man coming with the Clouds….keep the faith, remain in the Lord.

May God bless you!

1 Samuel 30:19 And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small, nor great, neither sons not daughters, neither spoil, nor anything that they had taken to them; David Recovered all.

Greetings to all saints in the most precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I hope you are blessed with the previous article of Living Rhema on restoration, where we could see how the children of Israel restored the towns and blessings. Today I want to share something about David; the king of Israel who recovered all that was taken away by his enemy, Amalekites. Let this message strengthen you more and my prayer to our Lord is that whoever reads this article let him or her recover all that the enemy has taken away.

David escaped Saul and was with the Philistine King Achish for 16 months. Almost six hundred men were now with him because the anointing had departed from Saul and now it was with David. So they followed the anointing. Do not follow the tradition. Rather, follow the presence of God. Do not follow the way where God was yesterday, but pursue the way where He is today. King Achish kept David as a friend and gave him the town called Ziklag to dwell. And in the process of time, the princes of Philistines asked King Achish to cast away David from them because they knew who David was. Upon their word, King Achish told David to leave him. So David while returning home with a broken heart, he found the city burned and the loved ones taken away as captives.David, in his journey of 85 miles towards Ziklag was tired. Besides, he did not have good news when he was back home. Are you going through this kind of situation? You might have good news in your office but not when you come home? People might rejoice seeing you but when you look into yourself…you feel drained. When you are in church, you rejoice with everyone but when you are back home, you face the same unchanged situations and you feel lonely. …You felt good when you shared that sermon in your church but when you are back home- nothing has changed. You felt pumped when your shared your testimony and others were rejoicing but you yourself cannot rejoice. Something is holding you back. Why do you feel that there is some lack in your victory over situations that you are going through? You are victorious in one thing but on the other hand, you are drained off. We have recovered on certain areas but are still struggling in other areas. One mother mailed me about her daughter. She was very relieved when her daughter got a job but she is concerned about her wedding because nothing is working out since years…Many among us has recovered some part of our blessings but we still strain to attain victory in other areas. It may be your child’s future, health, Job, or a relationship.

After undergoing a surgery, a patient needs time to recover. The time of recovery depends upon how the patient responds to the medicines. The recovery or restoration of our losses depends upon how we respond to God. The recovery is directly proportional to our response to God. We can see this in three points:

Some recover fast-
Some recover gradually-
Some never recover

The one who recover fast is the one who responds to God spontaneously. The one who recovers gradually is the one who responds gradually, and the one who never recovers is the one who never acknowledges the power of God or the one who never responds to God.

Let us see how does David respond to such circumstances?

I Samuel 30:4, ‘Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.’

David was both a human being and an anointed servant. He cried and lifted up his voice until there was no power to weep. This is a normal approach and we all tend to do this. No one sits and smiles when he find his loved ones taken as captives. David and his men were tired after the journey. They were already drained off of their physical strength and now when they came back to their homes to find fire and smoke around, they were almost half dead. But David did not choose to sit in this drained situation for a long time…This is the place from where some of the folks do not recover because they like to sit on the situation and think on it again and again.
But if you say to yourself today that “I am going to get up and shake off depression, confusion, and uncertainty from me”, then you will see the Glory of God. Devil wants you to sit on the situation and keep on digging up the condition, but if you choose to get up and shake off the dust from your shoulders, you will find God’s provision beside you. Awake, your light has come and Get up for it’s all over. Today is the day to say ‘Good Bye’ to the situations because we are children of God and we are children of Light. We do not walk on situation but we walk on revelation.

I Samuel 30:6 ‘And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.’

Here it’s getting tougher for David, because the people who were with him were now blaming him; they were against him, and were trying to stone him to death. Dear child of God, if you choose to get up from the situation, do not think that things are going to be smooth and cool like cucumber. Here we can see the response of David to God.

Notice here that it was not David who needed to be blamed, but it was Saul who once destroyed the Amalekites but spared the King and the good things. But David did not wait to make his stand clear. In fact he gave no ears to what the people said. He encouraged (Strengthened) himself in the Lord. He said to himself that “I am not going to sit and weep on what I have lost but I am going to shake off the dust and will encourage myself in the Lord”. You need to understand today that if you have a heart to get up from the situation, God will pour on you the strength to face the situation. That’s why David sings in Psalms 27: 2 and 5, ‘when the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion; in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up on a rock’. Can we also learn to stay calm in the situation like David? Calm or stillness in the situation doesn’t mean ‘not acting upon’ but it shows the rest in your soul and your trust in the Lord. Psalms 46:10 ‘Be Still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.’ There is a sweet message here. If you choose to be still/calm in such situations, then only you will taste the Glory of God and then only you will know the ways of God. David was greatly distressed but he was still, unharmed and he choose to encourage himself in the Lord…He did not wait for someone to encourage him but he decided to be strengthened in the Lord by himself. We often desire that the pastor should lay hands on our head and we like to hear the prophesy. But let us learn to encourage ourselves in the Lord…This teaches us that even though you are an anointed servant of God, there are some areas of life where you are greatly distressed. But do not hang on to the distress for a long time. Rather, dwell in the house of the Lord and He will give strength to our weak areas. Now let’s look little deeper as to how David encouraged himself in the Lord. David was in the midst of total discouragement. His own people were against him, the city was burned, his family was captive, and his own condition was weak. But David chose to turn his face towards God…He did not turn his face toward the situation nor his people but towards the God Almighty, because he knew that his help would come only from the Lord. Your denomination cannot give you the strength nor your pastor. Turn towards the Lord because he is the only source of Strength. ‘For God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in Glory’…I am weak…he will supply me the strength…. I am confused…he will supply me the Hope….I am thirsty…He will supply me the water …The only way to recover is to be strengthened in the Lord.

I Samuel 30:7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahilmelech’s son. I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.

David took his position in the Lord. Remember that we are not the sons of darkness to fear and stumble. We are the children of Light. God has not given us the spirit of fear.If you are a person who needs to recover all that you have lost, you must know who
You are and you must take the position for what you are called and appointed for. Why did Adam and Eve fall easily in the deception of the serpent? It’s because they failed to identify who they were and where God had planted them.

I Samuel 30:8, ‘And David enquired of the Lord, “Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And he answered him, Pursue; for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.’

David enquired of the Lord. This is were we go wrong,we like to enquire advocates, friends and families. After all, David was a king and he had faced a major lose. He could have taken his next step but yet, he waited to know the will of God. Sometimes we think that our situations are very hard and so we take our own steps and land up in greater problems. Why? David was the “Man after God’s own heart”? Saul did some small mistakes and he was rejected. David did some great mistakes but still, he was appointed. David enquired of the Lord when he was yet a Shepherd. He continued to seek his face even when he became a king. He did not enquire of the people around. He looked at the face of God and Bible says that those who look unto him are lightened; and their faces are not ashamed. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in men. If you are a person who cannot see your friends, family or anyone in the world… take a decision that, “I am going to look above and enquire of God.” And when David enquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him. We are serving a Good God who will answer us when we call up his name. Psalms 34:6 and 15 says, ‘This Poor man cried and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all troubles. The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.’

God told David to pursue the enemy. Before recovering you needs, you need a heart to pursue your blessings. “Do the best and God will do the rest” if God is telling you to do something, do it. Did David recover all? Yes! Verse 19 of the chapter 30th says, ‘ and there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them. David recovered all.’
Who was David few minutes back? He was weak and weary but now, who gave him the strength to recover all? And what did he do to recover all? He encouraged himself in the Lord, He took his position in the Lord- he recognized his identity and He enquired of the Lord. Let this message be a blessing to you

May God bless you!
