Glory to God alone
Recently, a sister called me and said that a prophet came to her church and started prophesying to her that she was carrying and that the baby would be used by God. He said many other things which I cannot mention here. The fact is that this sister is unmarried and the person prophesying was a false prophet, who prophesied by outer appearances. When this sister cross checked with the pastor of the church and few elders, they all said that the prophesy was for the future and supported that wolf. I am sad to see that even the elect do not have a discernment to identify the wolves. Jesus did not give us the time and date of His second coming, but one of the signs of His coming is that many false prophets will arise and will deceive many. How shall we indentify these false ones? Remember! Duplicate notes will always come with the original ones, but the one who is trained in handling the notes identifies the original and duplicate correctly. Amen! If you are trained by the WORD, you will easily indentify these wolves. They will be discerned by their fruits. Let my prayer be our prayer, ‘God, give us your grace of discernment to test every spirit. ‘
Every prophet who tells about your past, present and future is not a prophet, and this is where we fall. We give these crooks a chance to creep inside our houses. First of all, we need to understand and correct ourselves. Then only we can identify these false ones. As I have seen in our ministry, many treat prophets as fortune tellers and if you don’t change this idea, then either you will be deceived one day or you have already been deceived. Prophet is not a fortune teller and he is not a parrot that is inside the cage and picks some cards of its choice and tells your future. Yes! The prophet from God will tell the future things, but he does not pick any card by his own. He will tell what the Lord says. When Jeremiah was called, God showed him an almond tree, and asked him as to what he saw. Jeremiah said exactly what he saw. He did not add anything extra about that vision. A prophet from God will not add anything to what God shows, but will tell exactly what he has seen. God did not ordain prophets to tell about your daughter’s marriage, and your new business dealings. Unless and until we recognize the role of the prophet, there is every chance of getting deceived. I remember one self proclaimed prophet, who came to my dad and said that my dad will receive one bumper lottery. My dad stopped him then and there, and explained to him as to who a prophet is and what his role is. What if this false prophet has prophesied to any unbeliever or any babes in Christ? They will merely believe him and accept him. Even the elect can fall if he is greedy for money. So children of God, please recognize the function of a prophet. He is not ordained to tell only the prosperity part of a person’s life but He is also ordained to build the body of Christ spiritually. The main aim of a prophet is to build the body of Christ. But people like us are more interested in building our own reputations, ambitions, desires etc. And seeing this, the false prophets creep in and tell what exactly you were waiting for. Many of us doesn’t know the role of a prophet and so they take him as a fortune teller. Have you ever went to a prophet eagerly to know about your spiritual life? There are very few people who ask about this. Most of us are concerned of the beggarly things of this world like college admission, date of marriage, a color of car, visa to Canada etc
Whether you like me or hate me, this is the truth. Before identifying the false prophets, we need to break some mindset and identify the role of a prophet.
Who is the prophet of God? : – A prophet is a man who has been called of God to speak for Him and be His messenger. A prophet receives the Lord’s word for mankind, including revelations, prophecies, and commandments. “A prophet, then, is the authorized representative of the Lord.” The world may not recognize him. An important requirement is that God speaks through him. A prophet is a teacher. He receives revelations from the Lord. These may be new truths or explanations of truths already received. Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants, the prophets” (Amos 3:7). The job that a prophet does for God is the same job that God assigned Aaron to do for Moses. So the Lord said to Moses in Ex. 7:1: “See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.” 2 Peter 1:21, ‘ For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.’ The Greek form of moved is Phero, which means ‘to carry’ or ‘to bear ‘, signifying that they were “borne along,” or impelled, by the Holy Spirit’s power, not acting according to their own wills, or simply expressing their own thoughts, but expressing the mind of God in words provided and ministered by Him. Why do we need Prophets? -: As a result of the fall of Adam and Eve, man was separated from the presence of God. We need to know and keep His commandments to be worthy to live with God after this life on earth. Throughout every age, past and present, God has chosen righteous men to be His prophets and spokesmen. God speaks through these men who are commanded to reveal to mankind His will.
The Role of the prophet of God: – 1 Corinthians 3:6, ‘for we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building (NIV) and to build God’s building, He has ordained some’ and one of them is prophet. Ephesians 4:11-13, ‘It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ’. So from the above verses, it is clear that a prophet is called to train Christ’s followers in skilled servant work, to work within Christ’s body, the church, which means, edifying the body of Christ, until we’re all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God’s Son, as fully mature adults, fully developed – within and without, fully alive like Christ. Any prophet who is trying to build only the worldly things in you, is not from God. Yes! Our God wants us to be blessed financially and in every aspect of life, but He also wants us to grow in maturity in Christ. We have people who are fully matured in worldly way but not spiritually. High alert! You can be easily deceived in the trap of the false prophets. Scan every prophesy and every prophet through the scanner – The Word of God.
If the prophesy and the prophet is not meeting the laid foundation of the WORD…ignore him because he is not from God. If you have a grip in the Word, no one will deceive you.
What does the prophet of God speak? : – He speaks the truth because he hears from God who is the Truth. Now many of us think that if the prophet says something, it must happen and if it is not done, then he is not a prophet of God. But that is not true. Deuteronomy 18:18-20, ‘when people approached Moses and asked about the true prophets, he said that if the prophet says anything, it must happen and if it is not happening, he is not a true one.’ So, since that day, people have a mindset that if the prophet says anything, it must occur. But Moses had said only one side of the prophesy. The other side is in Jeremiah 18:7-9, ‘ If God tells you anything and if you do not do accordingly, that prophesy will not fulfill in your life.’ E.g. People of Nineveh. God was about to destroy the city but the people repented, God refrained from destroying. Fulfillment of the prophesy is done when we move according to the Lord’s word.
Beware of False Prophets:Every prophesy must contain 3 three things. A prophesy without these three things is not a prophesy and the person prophesying is not a prophet.
I Corinthians 14:3-4, ‘But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and comfort. …… he who prophesies edifies the church.” Prophesy must contain 1) Edification 2) Exhortation and 3) Comfort
Now a days, we only hear comfort by some of the prophets and these are liars. We must get edification for our spiritual man through the prophesy. Exhortations (Encouragement) to the inner man through the prophesy is essential and comfort to the outer man is also needed which includes our job, children, financials etc. Dear brother/ sister, was your inner man edified when you heard the prophesy last time? Did you receive Exhortation from the Word through prophesy. But all you got was comfort! Am I right? You can easily recognize the false prophets now. A false prophet will never edify or exhort your inner man through the word, but he will just give you some false hopes and comfort you for the moment, but what will you do at the end? Beware of false prophets. God has given the following guidelines to protect us from false prophets…If someone purports to speak as a prophet from God, the church should assemble to judge the validity of that prophet’s words… ‘Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.’ 1 Cor 14.29. ‘Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.’ 1 John 4.1 A false prophet can be recognized by the fact that he or she yields bad fruit — distrust, discord, confusion, wrangling, gossip, useless disputes, and divisions within the church. (Jesus said…) “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.” Mt 7:15-17A prophet’s words are false if they are inconsistent with, or contradict God’s Bible. (This is the ACID TEST. God does not contradict His Bible.) Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you worthless; they speak a vision of their own heart, not from the mouth of the Lord.” (Jer 23:16).
Let us look unto Jesus and have a firm grip in His word and abide in His love.
