John 20: 19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
Disciples closed the door for they feared the Jews. The room was initially filled with fear, but soon, the room was filled with peace because the prince of peace stepped inside the closed door. Have you lost all your hopes and are your dreams fully shattered? Are all your doors closed? Let this message heal you today, because there is a hope even if all the doors are closed, because Jesus has the power to step inside the closed door. Door refers to ‘opportunities’. The disciples were called to do great things, but ‘fear’ had closed all their expectations and opportunities. There are many kinds of fear. Fear is something which we cannot ignore when it really masters us. But God has given us His Spirit. So, we are not slaves of fear, but we are masters. There is a fear which we should ‘have’ and there are fears which we should ‘not have’. We must have reverential fear towards God, but we should not fear men and devil. The Spirit that is dwelling in us comes from above and is above all power. Fear does not come from God. It comes from the devil through lies i.e. by covering the truth. Devil fears the truth. So, he tries to blind our eyes with his lies and makes us fear on certain issues, where God has already provided! Jews tried many times to kill and stone them but all those times, the disciples did not fear. They were even ready to die with Jesus. This was because they were with Jesus, but now Jesus was not with them…yes! Fear arises when we go away from our Lord. God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all….So how can a man who is clinging to God fear? In other words, closed doors without Jesus gives us fear, while the closed doors with Jesus in midst, gives us peace. Let us go more deep into the subject.
Doors closed by ourselves
Disciples were called to save souls but now, they themselves had closed the door. Are you doing the same? God has called you for some purpose and he has shown you great mysteries, but now you have closed the door by yourself? Have you come into your own assumption and closed the door? Did anyone tell you something which has made you refrain yourself and close the door? Remember, God has not called you to be inside the closed doors. Your future is not in the closed doors. He has great plans for you. Do not close the doors by yourselves.
Come out of all wrong assumptions and fear of people…the devil is a liar. Jesus stepped inside without knocking the door and said to them “PEACE”….The room was filled with the smoke of fear but Jesus opened the door and the smoke of fear vanished! Amen! These disciples who were in fear inside the closed door, later on shook the whole world. What would have been their future if they would have decided to remain behind the closed doors? Let us not close the door by ourselves. Do not go into the cave of your own thinking and close the door. If some one has mocked you and did anything against you, the enemy is happy when you are inside the closed doors.
Doors closed by the devil
Satan and his minions are always in an attempt to close all the doors of a child of God. When the Devil found that the gospel of God was spreading all over the world, he tried to close it’s door by putting Peter inside the closed door of a prison. He thought that by this, he could stop the ministry. But God sent His angel and brought Peter out of the chains. Devil can put people who preach gospel within the closed doors but he cannot put the gospel within the closed
doors, because Gospel is the power of God. It is the counsel of God and the devil cannot stand before the Gospel…The Gospel that we preach has the power to take us out from every closed inner cells. God will send his angels charge over every blood washed child of God, according to His riches in Glory. Acts 19:22-25, ‘The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. 23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks. 25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.’ Paul and Silas were kept inside the closed doors because the work of God was revealed through them in that particular city. They were flogged severely with their feet fastened in the stocks, and thrown in the inner cell. But yet they were praying and singing. It is not an easy
thing to pray and sing inside the closed door, when every opportunity seems to be closed forever. But let me tell you this that they prayed to God. In other words, they decided to talk to God and not to men. If doors are being closed everywhere, then stop talking to men and start talking to God. Besides praying, they sang hymns to God…Usually, we sing when everything is going good. There are three types of people : 1) people who sing in good times 2) people who sing in bad times and 3) people who sings all the time. A true child of God belongs to the third group. Paul and Silas were not in a situation to pray and sing. Even though they were weak outward, they were strong inward. God expects his children to be strong inward when the enemy closes the doors against them. What was the outcome of this worship inside the closed door? The foundation of the prison was shaken. If our foundation on Christ is firm, every other foundation will be shaken. The jailer and his household were saved. The jailer who flogged Paul and Silas, found himself washing their wounds. Indeed, this closed door was a great opportunity to preach the word to the lost within the closed doors. They were thrown inside the jail initially but they were escorted out finally. V.39 They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city. They were honored in the same city where they were put to shame earlier. What a victory for those within the closed doors, who did not grumble but prayed and worshiped God. The Devil was put to shame. No matter how strong the devil has closed the door, the Spirit dwelling in us has the power to overcome every attack of the devil. Greater is the one who is in us than the one who is in this world. Daniel was inside the closed door among the hungry lions, but God commanded the lions to not to touch His man…We may pass through some dangers inside the closed doors, but none will come nigh us
Doors closed by people
It’s painful when the doors are closed by our own brothers and friends, whom we trusted.Who closed the doors of Joseph? It was his own brothers. Two years back, we as a family went through fire. Some of the brothers in Christ blocked all our ways and pulled the shutters down. We looked around and saw none and at that point of time, we decided to look above. God was gracious to us and within few days, God opened new ways which no one can shut. If a man has shut the door, God can open it, but if God has opened the door, no one can shut it.I heard a preacher saying that when Joseph laid inside the prison of the king, where the other prisoners were king’s officials… Joseph was cast into that prison so that he could learn about king through the prisoners who were king’s officials …amen! I was touched by this example.
Even if the doors have been closed by our own people, remember that God has something to teach us inside the closed doors. It doesn’t matter who has closed the door, God has the key to open every closed door… Let us not close doors by ourselves. Look unto those disciples. They were normal people like us, but afterwards they were mighty men who did not fear kings, prison, devil and the world…You may have closed all the doors by yourselves because of fear or any other reason, but Jesus was chastisement for our peace and His peace is the only medicine to deliver us from every fear!
Let us abide in Him and be a fruitful branch to the Master who has called us. Let the name of Jesus be glorified.
With Love and prayers,
Abiding in Him
