Ephesians 5:15-20 NLT
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Bible not only tells us our salvation but it also speaks how we should live after we are saved. It shows us the role model to follow ( Hebrews 12:1-3, Mathew 11:29, 1 Peter 2 :21, 1 John 2 :6).
● Not like fools, but like those who are wise – Who is a fool? Bible tells us the one who says there is no God is a fool Psalms 14:1 . One who despise the instructions of the Lord is a fool. Who is a wise? Bible tells the wisdom of this world is foolishness for God. Who is a wise? The origin of wisdom is purely divine and from above ( James 1:3-4). God looks from above to see if there is any wise who seeks Him ( Psalms 14:2) Those who have seen God in their life is real wise, those who fear Him is real wise (proverbs 1:7), those who obey and meditate the instructions of the Lord is real wise. Those who acknowledge God in all their ways are the wise ones.
● Make the most of your opportunity in these evil days – many of us think we get opportunity in good days but those who have wisdom of God will make the most of the opportunity in evil days. Here we learn that there are opportunities in evil days. Example how Paul used the opportunity while he was in the prison, how John used the opportunity in the evil days, how Philip went down to samaria when there was lots of persecution.
●Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do – now when you get opportunity in the evil day don’t act thoughtlessly but understand what the Lord wants you to do in that situation. Ask for guidance, know the will of God in every situation and act accordingly. Word gives us guidance, Lord will speak to you directly, through the word, through his servants, through visions, dreams. God has various channels to speak we need to tune our ears for listen Him. Holy Spirit will guide us by inner voice.
●Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit – this is filled by the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t mean speaking in tounges but giving every areas of our life in the hands of Holy Spirit. Letting Him take the control, allowing Him to work through your life. In one portion its said Jesus Christ was led by the Holy Spirit and in another portion it says He was filled by the Spirit. So if you are filled then you will be led. He came to Galilee by the Power of Holy Spirit. Now there are lots of things around us that gives the effect of drunkeness ( the world and it’s things gives the feeling of drunkeness) but that will ruin our life so all that mankind is looking for the joy, peace etc we receive when we are filled by the Spirit.
●singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. – true Spirit filled person will never think high about himself but will give importance to fellowship with fellow believers, he will rejoice the Lord with them. When they gather they have only praises to God. Nothing about themselves but everything about God. Now that’s fellowship but Paul says make music to the Lord in your hearts, now that’s personal relationship. True Spirit filled person will have a personal fellowship with God and fellowship with he believers. Who can sing all the time those who have given all the areas of life in the hands of Spirit. We can sing in Spirit filled life.
● And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. – Thanking God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. What ever the situation is we should learn to thank God. Jesus thanked the Father in some of the critical situations ( while he was feeding 5000 men, in front of Lazarus tomb)
