Luke 5:3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
Jesus, while walking by Gennesaret Lake, people pressed about Him to hear the word of God. But Jesus didn’t see the people who pressed about Him, but He noticed the two boats which were near the lake. I used to wonder why Jesus didn’t notice the people were standing close to Him. Why did Jesus Christ notice only those two boats? The answer is, that Jesus was looking for someone who was really in need and He wanted someone who has already tried all their luck but failed in all there attempts. Even now, He is looking for someone who is really in thirst and wants Jesus in their life. As in psalms it says, “Like the deer pants for the water, my soul longs after you O Lord’. It’s true that Jesus saw the two boats standing near the lake but He couldn’t see the fishermen on that. They were busy washing there nets. They were tired of the boats which they used the night for fishing…All their hopes for the day was gone. That’s why they left their boats and were washing the nets. We also sometimes are tired and go weary, after all our attempts fail. And we leave those cases which have made us tired. Saying that it cannot be healed, I am still the same, I am suffering this for long time etc. But Jesus is walking by and knows your situation better than anyone. I find it interesting that these fishermen were washing there nets. If you see them washing, you will say that they have got lots of fishes the previous night. They were actually pretending that they caught many…we also sometimes do this way. We smile, we talk, we mingle but God only knows our inner heart. He only can do a complete scan of your heart. I have read this saying which is so true “Wider your smile, deeper your problem is”. So when you find a person smiling wider, don’t judge that he or she is having a great time in his or her life. We look at the outward but God searches the inner parts. Now see, how Jesus is dealing with this case. He gets into the boat of Peter…He doesn’t need the boat but need Peter…so the loss that occurred in Peter’s life, the previous night, was because Jesus wanted him. Are you going through similar kind of situation?? If yes then there is good news because “Jesus Christ wants you!! “
After getting into the boat, Jesus asked Peter to take the boat, a little away from the shore. We see here, that Peter not only gave his boat to Jesus, but now his boat is moving according to the word of Jesus Christ. Let me put it in this way…. he not only gave his life to Jesus, but he is also walking according to the Word of God. Have you surrendered your life completely to Jesus??? Or may be that you have accepted Jesus as your personal savior, but are you walking according to the word?
See my beloved, accepting Jesus Christ is important in life but being in Him and walking according to His word is more important. Many believers fall and backslide. We accept Jesus Christ, but are we abiding in Him? Psalms 119:11 says, “Thy word I have hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. Is His word hidden in our hearts?? We go to church, we pray, we give tithes, we preach, we are in choirs etc. We do everything but again, are we walking in spirit? Who is guiding you? Whose word is guiding you? As in Psalms 119:105, “your word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path”…are you walking according to the Word of God?? If you walking according to word of you will never stumble.
Again in Psalms 119:165 it says Great Peace have those who love your law and nothing causes them to stumble.
Here, Peter now took his boat little away from the shore. If your life is in between the shore and water you will have a tough time. You need to take your boat (Your life) away from the shore and get your boat into the deep waters …The shore here means worldly life. Away from the worldly life i.e. “deep waters” mean the spiritual life. Waves are stronger on the shore compared to those in deep waters. The problems become deep when you are at the shore but God wants you to be in deep water…So take your boat little away from the shore. Away from this world.as it is written in Hosea 2:14… God wants a close relationship with you .Peter gave his boat and did what Jesus asked him to do. Now Jesus told Peter to put his net in deep waters for a catch. But Peter’s reply was “Master, we have toiled all night but couldn’t catch any”. Here, Peter is explaining about the loss which he had inspite of all his efforts all night… And in the process, he expressed how desperately, he wanted the fishes…
But the answer of Peter made me think a lot. He is admitting his failure by saying, “Master, I will put the net by your word”. Here this word is called “Rhema”. Peter believed in the spoken word of Jesus …How come a well experienced fisherman can cast a net by hearing the word of a son whose father is a carpenter??? …hmm…but I believe that while Jesus was preaching the word in the boat, the word worked tremendously in Peter’s heart. So he believed the words of Jesus Christ and by Peters reply we can learn that how confident he was.
Remember he is casting the net in the same place where all his hope was dried up the previous night. You need to know something today. Your past failures can be restored by one word from Jesus. If he had promised you that he will bless you no matter how much you tried & failed by his one word he will give all that you have lost. But this time, “Go with Jesus”. He will show you the way at the same place where all your attempts failed… Till now you were planning and taking decisions all alone…Now it’s a time to hear & walk according to the word of Lord Jesus.
Peter caught countless number of fishes that day & even got a promotion also…Do not be afraid “I will make you fishers of men”
May god bless you by this word
Let Lord Jesus name be lifted
